Light up Toys

There are many factors that determine how long one of our flashing light up toys work.  The flashing longevity depends on three main factors.

1. Number of leds inside
2. Color of leds
3. Type of battery used (alkaline or heavy duty)
4. Whether there is a motor
 

The number of leds inside the light up toy plays a big factor in operating life.  More leds use a greater amount of battery power, requiring better batteries to achieve a longer flashing time.  Color of leds also greatly contributes to battery consumption.  Purple and white leds require the most battery voltage to give off light.  While red, yellow, and orange leds need only half the amount of battery power to produce light!

The last consideration in how long light up toys work is whether there is a motor.  Some of our light up toys use a motor to spin leds in a circle at a high rate of speed for an amazing show of light.  These items require the use of higher better quality alkaline batteries instead of heavy duty batteries.  During development of light up toys we check the flashing time, and install the necessary type of battery to provide the longest flashing time.

  

Beginning in 2003 novelty light up toys were first developed as a low cost source of fun.  Ever since our light up toys have been great for all types of uses:

Although leds (light emitting diodes) were first invented in the 1960's as a pratical electronic component, there first use in a novelty toy was not until the early 2000's.  In the early 2000's mass production, brought about lower cost for leds.  

Body lights, consisting of two leds that strobed back and forth were the first known led novelty toy.  Shortly thereafter the race was on to create all kinds of new light up novelty toys.  The crystal star necklace was one of the first flashing novelty toy hits as we know them today.
